"33 Minutes: Protecting America in the New Missile Age" is a movie produced by the Heritage Foundation highlighting the consequences of a nuclear explosion on American soil. We will be showing the film then discussing Emergency Communications Preparedness in the event that there are no/limited internet or phone communications, with speakers from the Ham Radio Club of Rochester (Bill Kaspersoski), REACT, and others, followed by a group discussion on the use of Ham radios and CB's, and other common-sense preparedness. Come share your knowledge and learn more!

See video clips from the movie here: http://www.heritage.o...

Hope to see you there!

This should be fun! We'll have the screening, some open discussion, and then the opportunity to speak with some really talented guys about communication options! We welcome ideas & experience WSR members might have so can really get a good idea of our options! Another informative event! MikeK, bring your dad! :)

I don't want to sound too conspiratorial, however, I think this is an important subject to consider in the event that the government decides to limit communication for some groups via the internet, etc.

33min film was powerful. It was reassuring to know how prepaired our country is defensively but at the same time we that must be on guard not to let our elected officials become complacent with respect to continued funding in this area. Communication preparedness was too long as we lost a great number of members by the end. An simple overview may have held members better. A more in depth follow up could have been scheduled at a later date.
    •  The film was very good, disturbing, but informative - parts of the rest of the meeting kind of dragged a little. Despite my innate brilliance -{ :-)} I learned a few things just from watching.
    •  Thought the movie was great - more should see it, we need to remember, we need to remind our elected officials to remember WHY we need a strong defense and urge them to support it. Some speakers seemed to ramble, they need to be more precise, to the point, and move on. Had to leave before the Ham Radio guys finished - would have liked to learn more from them, they seemed better organized, but about 1/2 of members had left before they started.
    •  Very informative!! Needs to be shown on national TV in prime time.
    •  It was scary; yet, necessary. It is something we do not allow ourselves to think of...................yet need to be informed and prepared. Thank You
    •  This film very clearly laid out the myths and facts of the dangers presented by ballistic missiles. Things many people would not have considered when forming an opinion of our national security programs, defense funding, etc. I'll be ordering the kit to show to some 17-18-19-year olds and then sharing with another 9-12 group in Buffalo.
    •  I thought this was a well made film which shared information in a compelling way about the dangers we face from those interested in doing harm to the United States and our allies. I would recommend this film to everyone and would encourage it's circulation through every means available. It may make some people uncomfortable to watch, but all the more reason for them to see it. For too long Americans have buried their heads in the sand and our government has denied threats, or failed to adequately address them. The stakes are much higher in a ballistic missile strike scenario, and we must make all preparations possible, employ all tactics available, and dedicate resources as necessary to prevent such an attack from occurring.
    •  Good film very informative, but follow up the interviewees guesses with the solid facts, ie "How many nations have ballistic missiles", etc, give the answers after their guess.
    •  The film was informative and offered equal parts of hope (the current state of our technology) and concern (the attitude of the current administration). I think we need to urge our congress critters to do everything possible to provide for the general defence (especially since most of them only feel it's important to provide for their next re-election effort).
    •  enlightening!

We thought the film and the speakers were informative and valuable. We had never considered learning how to use ham radios until this meeting and now we think that we will begin the process. We are excited and looking forward to learning this way of communicating. During an emergency, it obviously important to have people in surrounding communities who can use this technology.
    •  33 Movie was great. Opened my eyes to our capabilities. The Communications Prep segment was was too long! I missed the first 1/2 hour of the meeting but what about the looming health care plan that looks more and more like Barach will get his way.

The film was very informative and I learned a lot of things about our defense system. Thank you to the speakers who gave very informative talks about communications preparedness and thank you to the people who volunteered to be part of the communication team. I look forward to hearing from them in the near future.
