Being able to produce a significant portion of your food is a good insurance policy against rising food prices and shortages, and saves you money.

Members John and Deb LeDoux grow almost all of their own vegetable and herb supply, and sell some at the local natural food stores. Come join them for an hour long presentation with visuals and handouts on basic gardening techniques needed to help a neophyte be successful in Rochester's climate.

On the following week, April 3, John and Deb will have a hands-on construction of a new garden bed. Bring your work gloves and enthusiasm!

Come join us for an opportunity to take constructive, positive action - to demonstrate to the rest of the country that freedom and self-reliance can be tasty!

A hearty & healthy thank you to John for an excellent presentation! If half of his tips work, he will have completely neutralized my yearly argument that we'll spend less buying vegi's @ Weg's & it's too much work! (Don't feel bad John, my wife has won the argument every year anyhow then sends me tilling & I end up sore & sunburned! Thanks to you, this yr will be easier and better!) Also, thanks to Lisa 4 organizing this meet-up. Everybody we met was great & made us "newbies" feel right @ home!

Great meeting, great people, good turn out, very informative. My wife and I are going to start our first raised garden. The idea behind this was to be able to be more self sufficient, maybe some of the other areas that could be looked at would be, raising your own meat source ie. chickens, eggs, etc., and hunting and fishing. You could also do something on canning, or drying of food. These are all things most of our parents grew up with but many no longer do.

You might not have any desire to grow your own food today but the day may well be coming when you'll have to. Educate yourselves today for knowledge you'll need tomorrow. Hope to see you all there!

I brought 2 other people and twe were all charged up about starting a garden! Love this learning- how- to- be- independent stuff! We may want to consider a meeting that explains ham radio operations, or small engine repair... Thanks so much for putting this on! AND FOR FREE!!!!

John's passion is so exciting he did an awesome job! We feel very fortunate to tap into such a talented person. Thank you John for sharing your knowledge with the group. For those who are interested in gardening CountryMax is having a Spring Expo at the Monroe County Fairgrounds on April 16th and 17th one of the store managers stated that you can get up to 30% of most products at the show! Happy Garedening!

This was an informative and very helpful meeting. I have always tried to have a garden, but it never worked out that well. Now I am ready to tackle raised gardens! Thanks!
    •  John did a great job with the presentation. His information will be very helpful should we decide to try this!

It was a wonderfully fun and inspiring presentation. John is so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about gardening. He really inspired me to do what I've been talking about for several years now. So, I have the area, I have the horse manure and now I just need to get building and hauling!! AND, I am so glad I don't need to buy a rototiller!! I loved the interaction with the audience and John's wonderful way of sharing his knowledge, as well as his emphasis on becoming self-sufficient and sharing the harvest. I felt so excited and energized when I left this meetup and I know others did too. A BIG thanks also to Deb for bringing John along! Also, thanks to Lisa and anyone else involved in setting up this and other meetups! Gail

Inspired us to do a raised bed garden this year instead of conventional row . Looking forward to the practical meeting to learn a bit more.

This was surely a well-attended and informative presentation! Many thanks to you both for all your preparation in sharing the wealth of knowledge and experience you have regarding many aspects of gardening, especially raised beds! This was also well planned timewise so everyone can get at least SOMETHING growing! Whether one has a large or small gardening area, there was something for everyone to get started growing your own food right now. Now is the time to prepare and plant even one raised bed for "practice" and to fulfill our "self-reliance" value. It was an enjoyable, friendly, personable and inspiring event! Thanks again!
    •  That was a fantastic meeting! I learned so much... soil and how to make it work for you, composting, mulching and especially the 'square-foot' gardening concept. The attendees had great questions and John answered them all. John is a very good presenter - humorous, knowledgeable, personable. All-in-all, a well spent afternoon. Now I know Mom's getting a garden for Mother's Day - early!
    •  I have had successful gardens in the past, but after last year's soggy summer and horrible crops, I figured I could learn something new. This meetup did not disappoint. Thanks to those who set it up.
