All good points thus far, we do need to keep the pressure on ACORN. We need to contact those who supported their stripping of federal funding and thank them!
We need to call those who continue to support ACORN and let them know it's not okay. We need to link people like Slaughter and Gillibrand to ACORN. We need to keep it in the limelight and focus on how ACORN IS Obama like a ball and chain. Keeping ACORN in a negative light will perhaps force this to go further. As far as the student loan thing, it's despicable! I bet people get out "personal loans" instead. I bet people start paying for their own schooling instead, course by course. Somehow the colleges need to step up and find some "red tape" against this. Finally, perhaps I'm over optimistic but do you realize how much power we have??? Do you realize how, in 7 months, we've put this country on it's ear?? We cannot stop now! Congressmen and women all over the country are getting a backbone because they know we are here, we are supporting them in right endeavors for our great nation and THAT has encouraged them, motivated them to speak up and out and is making a difference. Everyday people are turning into whistleblowers. Look at the guy from NEA, look at Giles and O'Keefe, look around!! People are waking up and we fighting for our beloved country! WE....ARE....MODERN...DAY...PATRIOTS! And don't you forget it. |

UPDATE: From Fox News today,'ACORN Can Receive Pending Federal Payments, Justice Dept. Says'. In the interest of 'fair & balanced' coverage, the NY Times reports, 'Justice Department Says Acorn Can Be Paid for Pre-Ban Contracts'.
BigGovernment.com has TONS of documents, videos, etc. on ACORN. I uploaded a particularly interesting file, IMO, to the FILES section, 'Doorknocking Basics' so everyone can see how simple (and effective) their spiel might be in some areas. We can use this kind of information both for learning and exposing their tactics and refining our own - to use what works but without the 'sleazy' factor. (Me: One example is '...we're fighting to get the vacant lots cleaned up...' could easily be answered with, "How about if we get the neighborhood together and clean up the lots ourselves so the tax dollars can be used for something we can't do ourselves?") |

When you call or write any Congress Twerp ( i refuse to call them people except for a few.) mention we are now over 900 and we will be actively campaigning against them except for Chris Lee and others who are trying to do the right thing.

Thanks, John. I know Chris Lee has become unpopular among some and he has certainly cast a vote or two with which I disagree. Interviews I've heard from him in the past and especially the last few weeks give me pause in throwing him out with the bathwater. He's doing a good job in explaining to us the schoolyard atmosphere he finds himself in, the difficulties of being in the minority and getting anything done, his frustration with objectionable legislation being attached to vital bills. (Hate crimes hooked to defense spending.) I'm of the mind that rather than being a turncoat to conservative principles overall, he discovered what any one of us would - should we make it to the vaunted halls of DC - that partisan politics make good people into something less in order to function there.
I do sometimes mention our numbers, though not our group by name, when calling any of them. "I have 900+ 'friends' who feel as I do and we'll work mightily to support you or take you out, depending on how you choose to legislate." Of course, I've been doing that since the line began, "I have 200+ friends...". My, how we've grown! |

"Stop Federal Funding of ACORN Now!" petiton! This is what I sent my elected officials "I am tired of the requests. As my representative I demand that you vote against this bill. I cannot believe we are even having this conversation and please do not send me a form letter in response to this comment because it is an insult. Daniel Perna |

UPDATE: Now that's what really ticks me off above anything else. An organization can be completely partisan, commit voter fraud, and right under our noses spend our tax dollars to win votes for the party they support, and our right to vote is not protected at all, and they can continue to take our money based entirely on the constitution? Since when was the constitution written for "We the partisan organizations within the government that control your voting"??? |

It appears that all three branches of our government are out of control.
"NEW YORK (AP) - The U.S. government's move this fall to cut off funding to ACORN was unconstitutional, a federal judge ruled Friday, handing the embattled group a legal victory. U.S. District Judge Nina Gershon issued the preliminary injunction against the government, saying it's in the public's interest for the organization to continue receiving federal funding. ACORN claimed in its lawsuit that Congress' decision to cut off its funding was unconstitutional because it punitively targeted an individual organization. " I especially love her quote about funding this organization is in the public's best interest. I guess she was referring to the public that looks for advice on avoiding income taxes and voter fraud. Does anyone else get the feeling we are really up a certain creek without a paddle? |
